Type once, get ten Unicode styles โ€” bold, italic, script, bubble and more. Copy any of them straight into your post.

These are special Unicode characters, not real formatting. They paste anywhere โ€” but screen readers may spell them out letter by letter, so use them for emphasis, not whole posts.

How 'fonts' work on X (and when to use them)

X doesn't support bold or italic text in posts โ€” so how do some creators do it? The trick is Unicode. Alongside the regular alphabet, Unicode defines whole lookalike alphabets โ€” Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols, fullwidth forms, circled letters โ€” that are ordinary characters, not formatting. Because they're just characters, they survive anywhere text is allowed: posts, replies, bios, display names, even DMs. This generator maps your text onto ten of those alphabets instantly, right in your browser.

Why it matters: in a fast-scrolling feed, a single ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐—น๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ phrase can do the job of a headline and lift the hook of a post. Tips for using them well: style a few words, not paragraphs โ€” emphasis works by contrast; prefer bold and italic, which render reliably on virtually every device, over exotic styles that can show as boxes on older phones; and remember most styled characters count as 2 characters against the 280 limit (check with our character counter). One honest caveat: screen readers may read styled letters one by one, so keep accessibility in mind and never style essential information alone.

How can X posts have bold or italic text?

They don't, technically. X strips real formatting โ€” but Unicode includes lookalike alphabets (Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols) such as ๐—ฏ๐—ผ๐—น๐—ฑ and ๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ค that are ordinary characters, so they survive copy-paste into posts, bios, and display names.

Do styled fonts hurt reach or accessibility?

There is no evidence X down-ranks them, but screen readers often announce each styled letter individually ("mathematical bold capital Bโ€ฆ"), which makes long styled passages unpleasant for blind users. Use them for a few emphasised words, never whole posts.

Why do some styles show as boxes on my device?

Rendering depends on the fonts installed on the reader's device. The common styles (bold, italic, monospace) are safe almost everywhere; rarer ones like small caps or bubble can fall back to boxes on older systems.
